The Energy of Sales

Think about the energy that most people have about selling or being sold to. It is a one way kind of feeling. You either try to get people to do something or you put up barriers so people can’t “sell” you.

Selling is typically not a very honoured profession.  A lot of people in sales won’t come out and say, “I’m in sales”.  They usually call it something else!

There’s just this lower level energy around “sales” – it’s often perceived as a less valuable role.

Few people get excited when telemarketers call.

Why?

It’s because they don’t feel the person really cares about them. They only want the sale.

You may have grown up hearing from your family and the world around you a sort of collective “group think”. It is how you learned to look at life.

You’ve heard, for example, that selling is really “hard” and that it causes you to have to manipulate people and convince them of your value. You may think things like:

• I don’t want to sell people.
• I don’t like when it comes to the time to talk about money.
• I love to talk to people, but when I feel like I have to close them I don’t like that.

You may not realize that beliefs like these are sending out telepathic signals. Whenever you think, “I am not good at selling” or “I hate talking to people about money” or “It doesn’t work well for me”, you are demonstrating lower level energy beliefs.

These limiting beliefs match you up with other people with the same lower level beliefs or energy activated in them. You unconsciously perpetuate this limiting belief by the actions you take or don’t take.

So how can you serve your identified niche and make the switch from “Selling” to “Serving” those customers/clients within your own unique niche?

This is about how you would begin your own unique transforming selling to serving process.

Setting your intention and becoming clear on it is critical to your success.  There is a notable difference between the intentions of selling as compared to serving.

Most people think selling is convincing or manipulating.  A lot of individuals feel like they are in a lesser position and they need to convince people of their value, or they feel it is demeaning – “Oh no, I am selling!”

I like to see it differently, as serving.  And I see each selling experience as a sacred serving opportunity.

I want you to see selling become a serving process that is a burning desire inside of you.  I know that when you see and feel that selling IS truly serving, you will be of true service to the world and you will help create new paradigms for how you do business.

It truly begins with you!

• Serving is tapping into a higher frequency of energy – call it Spirit or Source – it is about your work as part of the bigger whole.
• Serving is opening your mind to tap into your passion and to discover how your passion allows you to creatively serve for the good of all concerned.
• Serving is being creative in how to connect with others.  It is manifesting your ideas in relationships to others.
• Serving is holding an intention for the highest good to be served.

You have the ability to create the life of your choice by doing the work of your choice.

Why is an Outer Process Alone Not Enough?

Having a strong Outer Process is essential to a successful business, but depending on the Outer Process alone is not going to get you very far.

If you’re not getting the results you want, the place you have to look at first is inside, and then you look at the outside.

9 times out of 10, it’s something on the inside that is impacting what you do on the outside.

If you are like many people, you’ve never thought about having an inner approach to your business.

You think about the outer approach – how to get more sales, how to create a website, how to do direct mail marketing – always doing, doing, doing.

Of course, these things ARE important.  And you may have great ideas and processes in place already, or, if you are like many new entrepreneurs, you may simply have a passion for something without much of an idea of how to do those Outer Processes (sales, marketing, web sites, etc.)

But whether you have those systems in place already or not, if you are like many human beings, you may very well spend much of your life worrying about what is going to happen – telling yourself “what if” stories about anything and everything that you want to achieve.

Your “what if” stories are where you’ll discover your lower level energy beliefs. They tell you about your regrets of the past and your fears of the future.

Think about how that all feels. When you have a feeling and when you think something about it – whether it is true, or you are just thinking of it – your mind can’t tell the difference.

Your mind doesn’t know whether it is real or not. You actually think it is real, so you feel those feelings. As you’re feeling, you are sending out an energy signal. The feelings actually create the energy signal.  That is “vibrational output”.

Say you are worried about going out of business. You can’t sleep. You wake up at night worrying. The signals or the energy you are sending out is: “I’m afraid I will go out of business.”

You will match up through energetic connections with people and situations to help you fulfill that prophecy.

You make a small shift when you start acknowledging what you are afraid of.

When you recognize what you have activated in you (the stories) and you just let them be OK – you alter the vibrational output.

Then, by focusing more on how you want to feel, you start to shift that vibrational output even more as you begin the process of managing change.

Managing your energy at that Inner, foundational level is what enables you to have greater success on every Outer action that you take regarding your business!

Of course, you do need an outer process, a tangible method that you can count on, that feels good to you and to anyone that is considering using your services or products.

If you don’t have an outer process, you are just paddling upstream!

When you talk to people, they will feel that vibrational connection to buy what you have. They will feel like you are an answer to a prayer! And they are an answer to yours!

You can actually use a coaching process that helps activate the possibilities in your potential customers and clients. You sell yourself at an energy level, which means that you don’t have to try to convince your customers or clients to buy at all!

There is a New Awakening

If you have never really worked out how you feel and identified the beliefs you may have about “selling”, you may be needlessly spinning your wheels.

When you are in the position of selling and feeling like you are trying to get someone to do something that they don’t want to do, think about what is happening.

Usually you don’t like doing things because you have internalized some common untrue beliefs:
•    I am not good at it
•    It does not work well for me
•    I am not deserving of it

Real Success is an Inside Job

There is a way to recession proof your life and business.

Energy management is the way to activate the changes necessary to ride with the times.

Some new language is needed here, so let me talk about what I mean by the term “Energy Management”.

There are a few things you should be aware of . . .

I believe there is a Higher Guidance that operates within everyone. It connects everyone at an energy level and this is an energy source from which all life force flows.

You can call that Source of energy “God” or “Spirit” or whatever word works for you, but it connects everyone. When you are able to consciously tap into that connection, you have tapped into unlimited potential.

It’s just not something that has been taught at business schools.

There are several parts to this idea of “Energy Management”.

This energy source operates at a very high level of frequency. To be able to consciously tap into that potential, you have to be operating at a similar frequency.

Thoughts like love and peace and how to serve others are thoughts that when measured (and you can measure them now) literally vibrate at a higher frequency than thoughts and feelings of anger and even frustration.

When you focus in these higher vibrational frequencies, you have a direct connection to that energy. This is your “Inner Coach” or “Inner Team”.

Now comes the next part of this idea of Energy Management.

This is one of the most exciting things to share with people who are in business or wanting to start a business!

Most people have come to believe that results are based solely on the actions they take. Or, that they are at the mercy of the outside world around them – and that they really have very little to say about it.

These people end up feeling depressed and alone. There are over 7.5 million depressed women and 4 million depressed men in the world!

Perhaps women are admitting their depression more frequently than men! In any event, the root of depression is about feeling disempowered.

What you have not been taught is that your thoughts and feelings produce a kind of frequency. This energy will connect with other “like” or similar energies.

Did You Know That Scripting Will Enable You To Visualize An Acre?

If your life is out of sorts and you are feeling like you are running in circles every day you need to spend some time seeking guidance from your inner spirit.

By creating new neuro pathways and shifting your vibrational energy you will have less scattered energy throughout the day. Instead you will have focused energy to help you reach your goals for the day easily.

Scripting is a great way to make a connection with source and be able to visualize an acre. I teach my students to use scripting as an energy road map to show themselves what is working for them and what is not.  This makes it easier to see the changes they should be making.

Did you know that scripting will enable you to visualize an acre?

• Decide what you want to have happen and script it
• Look for positive evidence throughout the day of what you scripted
• Don’t write general things that you don’t have feelings for
• Make your scripting on things you are connected to and really want

Scripting works the best when you are connected to what you want to have happen.  Don’t just say you want to have a great day…that is too general.  Instead say what during that day that you want to accomplish or have happen for you.

Look throughout your day for positive evidence that what you scripted is falling into place.  You will realize that so many things happen that you want when you have focused your energy on receiving them.

Sherli Looi describes herself as a business person who found herself in spite of success.

What does it mean to live authentically?

“Authentic living means “Believe in yourself.”  It means that you just are.   It means you just have to be.  Living authentically is a solid, peaceful place of confidence and freedom.  People used to say to me, ‘Know thyself, to thy own self be true,’ but the problem was, I didn’t know who or what I was.  Not knowing who I was filled me with debilitating fears.  It didn’t mean that I could not succeed.  I did succeed.  But I felt like a fraud.  I didn’t fulfill my potential.  Finally I reached the point when I respected myself for who I was.  Learning to live authentically is a journey.”

Sherli’s journey began in Malaysia where she was born to Chinese parents.   Although her mother wasn’t religious, she sent Sherli to missionary schools where she was exposed to Christianity.  “I loved listening to the Bible stories and going to Church.  I became fascinated by the concept of the Higher Self, our ability to become more than we are.  I read everything I could, especially New Age, occult, Tibetan spirituality, astro travel.  One of my teachers gave me The Third Eye, a book describing reincarnation, which captivated my imagination.  With reincarnation, life was a process. I believed that what I didn’t get in this life, I would get in another.  Something inside me believed there was more to life than just “from dust to dust.”

“When I was 10, I had an inner conversation. A powerful voice said to me, ‘If you are not Sherli, you still exist somewhere, somehow, under another name.  There is more to life than just Sherli, going to school and working.’ I searched for answers for a long time. Then I decided that I needed money and food.  So I took a job, but I never stopped feeling fearful or questioning, ‘Why I am this way?’”

“I worked hard and eventually became a VP of Chase in Singapore. Because I did a good job, I was rapidly promoted. I moved into the glamorous and lucrative field of foreign exchange. It was very competitive but it was superficial. I dealt with tens of millions of dollars every day.  I made lots of money and was successful, but what does it mean if you don’t know who you are?  You’re nothing.”

“After 14 years, my soul was dehydrated.  I quit and moved to California to become a massage therapist and esthetician. It was a pragmatic decision.  I didn’t want to work in the superficial corporate world anymore.  I loved helping people relax – a great satisfaction, not present in my high flying VP job.  Still, my search for answers never ceased.  I attended many self development seminars. I even walked on burning coals, but I never found the missing, final piece.”

How did you get that final piece?

When you are ready for the next phase of learning, you will be led.  Eighteen months ago I moved to Rochester, NY to pursue my MBA at the Simon School.  I actually found the final piece when I walked a labyrinth here in Rochester!  When I reached the Center, I meditated on why I was so fearful of failure, why I was so tormented about what I should do when I finish my graduate studies.  I allowed the energy to flow through me.  I listened to the voice that came through.  I knew my Higher Self was talking to me again. It said, ‘Reclaim your birthright’.”

“I sat with the message for a couple of days.  Still unsure what it meant, I prayed for guidance.  Guided to Google, I typed “reclaim your birthright” and was flooded with hits.  Asking again for guidance to the right website, I found one designed for battered women.  As I read ‘Respect who you are,’ I knew I found the answer. My energy shifted, and for the first time I felt an incredible alignment. The next morning, I woke up with a deep conviction that I no longer would take any shit from anyone because I respected myself.  No person, no circumstance could make a coward of me anymore.  I no longer needed to smile if I didn’t wish to. I would choose what I wanted to do and do it with a calm conviction.  I do not judge what I am; I just need to be. That is my authentic self. I found my missing piece. I honor what my Inner Self tells me.”

What advice do you have for our readers?

“Pray.  Pray as if you have what you want.  Pray wisely because you get what you pray for (except maybe for winning the Lottery!), but it doesn’t always come in the form you think.  Prayer is very powerful. For example, I prayed, “Thank you, Universe, for this mentor in my life who will help me in the ways you are guiding me.”  And the mentor showed up!”

The attentive audience gathered around for the short orientation to the labyrinth. I explain, “Labyrinths are amazing and versatile tools. People who walk them often experience an almost magical meshing of their analytical or rational mind with their intuitive and spiritual consciousnesses. From this altered state of consciousness, we can amplify our intuition, clarify complex questions, create incredible possibilities, and connect deeply to Spirit.”

As always, upon completing the orientation, I ask, “Do you have any questions?”  Inevitably someone voices this question: “How does a labyrinth work?” A rich question that I never tire of fielding!  Addressing it takes us into the depths of Nature’s Mysteries.

Early peoples lived in vivid realization of the Great Mystery through their intimate relationship with the four directions, the seasons, the sun, the moon, the stars and planets, and other natural forces. By tapping into energy dynamics that today are inaccessible to us, they created sacred spaces like the great pyramids, the Mayan temples, Stonehenge, and labyrinths.

We don’t know how labyrinths came to into being with the technology known at the time, nor do we know how they appeared in distant areas on the earth at about the same time. Furthermore, we don’t know what purpose they served in the ancients’ lives. By walking a labyrinth, however, we can intuit and even experience the energy those early inventors harnessed.

In an almost universal response, adult modern labyrinth walkers perceive the labyrinth as sacred space.The purpose of sacred space is to amplify the connection to Spirit, the Sacred.  Pythagoras (580 – 500 BC) claimed, “Number is the within of all things.” From Neolithic times up to the Protestant Reformation, sacred spaces around the world were constructed using the principles of Pythagorean or Sacred Geometry, a system of ratios and numbers in relation to the number one (the One). Labyrinths, too, were constructed of Sacred Geometry proportions.

Prehistoric labyrinths were predominantly circular. When the ancient builders embedded Sacred Geometry ratios in the circle, they created a resonance field, the vibrations of which could be physically perceived by stepping into it. They also aligned the placement of the labyrinth with the sun, moon, or planets, and typically located them at power centers, beams of charged Earth energy lines.

Circles abound in Nature.  As the “mother” of four cats, I note that each of them makes a clockwise circular nest before laying down.  Like the circular homes of birds and other creatures, it is their place for rest, recuperation, and safety.  Likewise, in almost every human culture present or past, the circle has represented not only the home but the sacred, the One.

Observe the structure of the ancient seven-path labyrinth. Notice that it contains a semi-circular center, surrounded by seven paths contained within the boundaries of a larger circle.  Ancient peoples were astonishingly knowledgeable about astronomy. It is believed that they experienced the Earth as the center of the Universe with the seven planets known to them orbiting around it.  I marvel at the synchronicity with the seven paths leading from the labyrinth’s center.

Since recorded history, the number seven has been associated with mysticism, magic, the sacred Sabbath.  Seven is considered the virgin number because it cannot be divided by any number except itself and one.  Ancient peoples believed that the world was ordered and harmonious. They had discovered the seven-note scale and used musical vibrations to calm and heal. Their life was ordered around the moon cycles of 28 – comprised, of course, of four weeks of seven days.

Walking the labyrinth connects us to these energies at a subconscious, kinesthetic level.  Even more astonishing and, to me, more intriguing, is the idea of geomancer and labyrinth builder Richard Feather Anderson. The labyrinth, he says, contains the eight patterns intrinsic to every living system in Nature. Each pattern is Nature’s way of doing something in the most efficient way.

What are these eight patterns? • Sphere – the shape of the labyrinth.  The sphere or circle is Nature’s means of efficiently enclosing the largest space.  Our heads, eyes, and fists are our bodies’ examples of spheres.

• Explosion/radial – imagine the ripples radiating from a drop of water.  Using photographs, Anderson demonstrates that a drop of water falling into a larger drop of water breaks into 7 radiating ripples!  In the labyrinth, the radial occurs in the concentric pattern of the seven paths.  Kinesthetically we experience it in the tight turns.

• Meander – the next time you fly, look down at the river patterns and you will see vivid examples of meanders. Nature forms the meander to curb erosion by controlling the speed and amount of water flowing in the river. The meander in the labyrinth is the pattern of the path walked.

• Spiral - think of the unfolding of a fern or the shape of a tornado. The spiral demonstrates Nature’s way of efficiently utilizing energy to grow. It is the archetypal energy pattern of Creation from planetary to electron movement. Ancient peoples’ symbol for eternity was the spiral. Follow one of the four end points of the labyrinth path and you will see the spiral.

• Double helix vortex – think of the movement of a canoe paddle in water. It forms double helix vortex eddies.The double helix spiral, appearing in every culture, signifies organic growth, death, and rebirth. Anderson pulls apart the two spiral threads of the labyrinth to make a three-dimensional form, a double helix – the same formation as human DNA!

• Close packing – think of your brain or your intestines. Close packing is Nature’s way of attaining the greatest efficiency of mass in the smallest amount of space. The paths of the labyrinth demonstrate close packing. The labyrinth path forces you to traverse every available space within it before you reach the center.

• Alternation – remember waves hitting the shore, alternating left to right, in and out.  Alternation is Nature’s way of revitalizing and cleansing water. Proprioceptively we experience alternation following the labyrinth’s path which alternates from left to right, top to bottom, in and out.

• Branching – like leaves on a tree, grapes on a vine or the lungs in our body, branching is Nature’s way of optimizing her life-giving qualities by maximizing the surfaces of exchange. Somewhat harder to discern in the labyrinth, branching is found by cutting a diagonal through the cross where the paths intersect.

Like the ancients before us, we hunger to participate in the dynamic energy of life.  Walking the labyrinth is a whole body experience of these fundamental building block patterns and numbers that form all life. By traversing the archetypal energy patterns in the labyrinth, we re-create Nature’s Wisdom within us. We walk a Nature’s healing path to wholeness, and connection to the Creator of the Universe.

I teach my students to use scripting as an energy road map to show themselves what is working for them and what is not.

This makes it easier to see the changes they should be making.

Did you know that scripting will enable you to visualize an acre?
• Decide what you want to have happen and script it
•    Look for positive evidence throughout the day of what you scripted
•    Don’t write general things that you don’t have feelings for
•    Make your scripting on things you are connected to and really want

Scripting works the best when you are connected to what you want to have happen.  Don’t just say you want to have a great day…that is too general.  Instead say what during that day that you want to accomplish or have happen for you.

Look throughout your day for positive evidence that what you scripted is falling into place.  You will realize that so many things happen that you want when you have focused your energy on receiving them.

Do You Know How Important Sales Negotiation Training Is For Your Business?

I recently taught sales negotiation training to a corporate client’s company.  They were seeking guidance in their procedure.  What I teach is how people can come into sales negotiations with a softer approach.

The intellectual goal of the company was win win but the energy they were giving off was aggressive, manipulative, and condescending.

The CEO was confident in his teams negotiation skills but felt that the previous training they had was out of step with the positive energy he wanted in the business.

People that these sales negotiators worked with could pick up on the negative energy they were giving off and it was making sales very difficult to close.

The CEO gave me a videotape of a negotiation so that I could see what was happening and the best way to change that. I saw that the words were correct but the body language was out of alignment.

Do you know how important sales negotiation training is for your business?
There were two people in particular that I wanted to work with.  One was a man and the other a woman.  I spoke with them individually and even though they had not spoken prior to the meeting they both said basically the same thing to me.  They felt undervalued, resentful and manipulated.  This was the energy drain people were picking up on.

These meetings were confidential so as I probed deeper I found that these two people were in a relationship which was prohibited by the company.

Together we worked on shifting their beliefs and activating new beliefs.  As they felt better about their positions and gained more confidence they requested the company policy on relationships be re-evaluated.

The policy was eliminated and this ended up with them having better results because they were extremely effective when they worked together.

Make sure that you:
•    Emit positive energy
•    Align your body language with your words
•    Shift the beliefs that are not working for you

Positive energy can be felt by people as well as negative.  Make sure that in negotiations you are in the right frame of mind otherwise people will pick up on that not only in your voice but in your body language.

Shift your beliefs from the ones that don’t work for you to ones that do.  Take baby steps in these shifts and you will start to see great results quickly.
