Are You Experiencing Dissatisfaction as an Entrepreneur?

“I can’t believe they called me into work this late,” the lady said, looking me dead in the eye. “I swear, this place is a mess, and it’s never going to change.
In all my years I’ve worked here …” blah blah blah.
I hear the same thing over and over again from this one lady at work all the time, and it never changes. Does anyone know why it never changes? Because she’s dissatisfied.
And why is she dissatisfied?
Because she continues to participate in the same process over and over again, and consequently always gets the same results.
Change your process.
It really is that simple. If we continue to do the same things, over and over again, we’re going to continue to get the same result, over and over again, right?
If I say I don’t like my job, but I continue to go into work every day, I’m going to continue to get the same results: disappointment and dissatisfaction in my work.
I have to change my process. I have to apply for other jobs, land one of those jobs, and start going into work there, right?
Wrong.
If all you want to change is the physical result, you’re in the clear with just changing your process. But if you want to change the feeling you get from the result, then you’re going to have to change more than the process.
You’re going to have to change the process that gives you the feeling, as well.”
I recently came across that helpful article from Dr. Alan E. Fuller.
It really just struck me how right on target he was with the necessity of changing the feelings above changing the process.
Did you know that your main motivation for doing ANYTHING is for the feeling you get from it?
- You want a successful business because of the feelings behind having a successful business
- You want to write a book because of how you will feel when you have written a book
- You want to improve your relationships because of the way you will feel when you have strong relationships
It is all about the feeling.
That is why it is so important to manage yourself on two levels. If the only thing that you ever focus on is outer actions, you’re never going to get to where you want to be.
When you do base your actions on what you feel, you actually leverage your time (always an important value to a busy entrepreneur!).
How does that work?
Basically, instead of trying to plan a bunch of actions and outer steps to take, just take a minute to manage your energy.
Think about the feelings that you want – How do you want to feel? Write them down. “When I have success as an entrepreneur, I will feel like I am financially free. I will feel secure. I will feel joy in my work”, etc.
Write down everything you can think of about how you will want to feel.
Then, work backwards! Figure out the steps that you will need to take to get those feelings. Maybe something you had planned for originally won’t get you that feeling. Great! Don’t waste your time on it!
Plan your actions to get you to the goals that will specifically achieve what it is that you want to feel.
Knowing how you want to feel will also be strong motivation for taking the actions that you will need to take to get what you want!
Stop allowing dissatisfaction to hold you back as an entrepreneur!
If you want to hear more about this concept and how being a Spiritualpreneur can actually recession-proof your business along with making it more fun, listen to the recording of a teleclass I held on this subject recently at: www.coachingfromspirit.com/SPBlog.
Ken Foster from Shared Vision Network joined me on the call, along with Bill White (the Synchronicity Expert), Debbi Chambers (author of Manifest Success), and Chuck Abbott (Top Marketing Trainer).
