When You’re Self Employed, Does it Pay to Ignore Reality?

I heard a great story from my colleague, Jim Donovan, that I wanted to share with you:

“The end of the month was quickly approaching and like many self-employed people, we were experiencing a cash flow challenge. It was, in all honesty, one of the greatest tests of faith I’ve experienced in a very long time.

I knew deep within my being, at the cellular level, that everything would work out. I said to my wife Georgia, “Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine, even though I don’t know exactly how, I know it will.”

I went about my business taking appropriate actions, holding my attention on what I wanted, being appreciative for everything I already have and yes, ignoring reality.

I know that there people who will say I was crazy or foolish. That we have to “be realistic!” There was a time when I might have tried to convince them I was right. Now all I do is smile, for I know better.

A few days before the end of the month, I went on-line to check my bank balance to see what checks had cleared. When I looked at the screen I almost fell over, because what I saw there was a very large deposit sitting in my business account. My first reaction was, “this has to be a mistake.”

I called to Georgia, who was in the other room, to come and take a look. Her first impression was that it was an error, but somehow it sure looked good sitting there. I clicked on the transaction in question, and saw that it was a wire transfer from my Japanese agent.

A small part of me still thought it might be a mistake, but I rejoiced in what could only be described as a miracle.

I realized right then and there that all of our positive focus and refusal to accept lack had in fact produced a significant result. I believe this was a “sign” that our faith was not in vain.

It was several days before the letter from my agent arrived explaining that they had sold a very large quantity of copies of “This is Your Life Not a Dress Rehearsal” in Japan and this was in fact, my royalty payment.

If I have ever questioned the validity of the teachings about the power of our minds, and the law that we attract everything in our lives, that moment ended it!”

If you’re self-employed (or wish that you were!), you are probably tempted to pay attention to all the bad news that is bombarding you from the television or the newspaper from a daily basis.

Do you realize what an affect this could be having on everything that you are doing as you try to achieve success?

Personally, I never watch the news!  Honestly – I figure, if the world’s about to end, I’ll probably hear about it.  In the meantime, why willingly put yourself under that pressure?

When you choose to focus on everything that’s negative, it will turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy for you!

Maybe you need to make a choice to ignore reality for a couple of days and tune into thinking about whatever it is that you WANT in your life.

Oh I LOVE that. That has been my approach as well. I will do a quick look maybe on cnn.com or what’s breaking news on Twitter but otherwise, why dwell on media designed to get our emotions and energy in an uproar (and not in the positive, high vibration, empowering way)? The herd mentality, will, well, get you in the middle of the unhappy herd.

    Enjoyed the post immensely!

I loved this post too :) and it’s funny to hear a ‘grown up’ and successful soul suggesting it’s ok to ‘ignore reality’! I spent my childhood being admonished to ‘be realistic’ and ‘be practical’. But the vibration was really ‘Be wary and be watchful. The world’s a bad place!’ I know this because ‘be realistic’ and ‘be practical’ from a different person would have carried a different vibration, eg from Jim it might have carried a vibration of ‘Hold on to your faith and focus. Be Ever Appreciative. Take the right actions and All Will Be Well.’ I’m printing out this post, it has so much meaning for me and I’m so grateful for it’s power in this moment of making concrete my own worthiness just for being me as I am.

Very inspirational story I have been struggling for some time working for myself but have recently begun to do rather well. If I gave it to pressure especially from people like my supposed friends who say to go out and get a real job than I would be a failure right now and I cannot accept that.

Very nice story I have been struggling for some time working for myself in a private company rather then in a government institute.
